Description

On completion of the course, students will gain a better understanding of strokes and how they can impact people.

You will explore the fundamental anatomy of the brain and how it functions as well as the different types of strokes and how they differ. you will then explore what happens during a stroke and the common signs of a stroke. You will also cover some UK statistics for stoke and why stroke awareness is important.

You will then go on to discuss the risk factors of strokes and explore the difference between non-modifiable risk factors and why this is important. You will also cover lifestyle factors that can increase and decrease the risk of a stroke occurring.

You will explore the treatment options for stroke survivors and how to determine which kind of a stroke is happening and how each one is treated. We will then explore some of the ongoing effects of a stroke and why these will vary between people.

Finally we will expand on how these effects can impact daily life for those who have had a stroke, including how the individual may need to rely on equipment, adaptations or care post-stroke. We will cover how strokes may impact family members and informal carers.

In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.

You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.

Units covered

  • Unit 1 - Introduction to Stroke Awareness - In the first unit of stroke awareness we will cover the anatomy of the brain, the different types of strokes and how they differ as well as explore what happens during a stroke.
  • Unit 2 - Risk factors - In this unit we will explore the risk factors of strokes and the difference between non-modifiable and modifiable risk factors and why this is important.
  • Unit 3 - Diagnosis, treatment and outcomes - In the third unit we will explore the treatment options for stroke survivors. How it may be determined which kind of stroke is happening and how each is treated.
  • Unit 4 - Life after a stroke - In the final unit we will expand on how these effects can impact daily life for those who have had a stroke, and we will cover how strokes may impact family members and informal carers.

This course is suitable for anyone who want's to strengthen their understanding of strokes and how they are treated and managed. This may include the following people, carers of those who have had a stroke, family and friends, health and social care professionals and those who have had a stroke and want to understand more

Requirements

You are required to complete a 30 question multiple choice quiz at the end of the course. Where you need to achieve at least 80% or above to pass. You can complete the quiz as many times as you need to pass.
